6 Principles Of A Cracking Web Design

MotoCMS Editorial 15 July, 2022

It takes only two or so seconds for a visitor to form their first impression of your business by checking your organization’s website. Hence, in today’s dynamic world of digital marketing, you simply cannot afford to be lazy about it.

So, what should you do? In this article, I’ve shared some principles that I personally use when working on a project. It’s going to be a looooong ride, so please bear with me till the end.

Principles Of A Perfect Web Design

The design of a website will always focus on gaining leads or converting a potential customer to a permanent one. Hence, before you get started with your project, try asking yourself – ‘How can I “influence” or “persuade” people to choose me?’

When I began my journey as a professional web designer, I asked this myself and came up with six principles accordingly. Please keep reading to know more about it.

Tip – 1: Avoid Testing Someone’s Patience.

Are you giving a free trial of your service? Sounds amazing… as long as your consumer finds out that they’ll have to complete a 25-field form to get it.

If it were me, I’d be like, “nope, thanks,” and get the heck out of there.

The keyword for creating a perfect online business is value. However, that shouldn’t come at the expense of someone’s time or breaching their personal information.

So, try to make your form as concise as possible. Just ask for a bit of information and let your customer get a service trial. Offer a free sample without asking anything if you can.

That’ll be even better.

Tip – 2: Don’t Make It Too Complicated.

If you’re offering more than one service, you may have a “let’s do it” kind of adrenaline rush and add everything to your homepage. And, it’s no crime, if I’m being honest. But, this will simply make it confusing for a visitor to find out the same feature they’re looking for.

Due to this reason, I’ll ask you to make your website appear as simple as possible. Keep the navigation system straightforward so that your audience can find whatever they’re seeking in a single click. Just show them the right path in an uncomplicated manner, okay?

The whole SEO thing can be complicated, especially when you are doing it for the first time. If you are new to SEO and are not aware of how it works, I will advise you to work with a local agency.

Tip – 3: Direct Their Attention Subtly.

Do you know most people consider content to be an excellent marketing tool? That’s because it can demand and direct an individual’s attention to precisely where you need them to.

If done correctly, web design can do the same as well. Our eyes, in essence, don’t work in a linear manner. Hence, you’ll need to find a creative way to make them look in the right place. And, you can do so by –

  • Writing a CTA in a bold letter-color composition.
  • Keep the photo of the product in the middle of the page.
  • Draw an arrow on your webpage to direct the visitor’s eyes to somewhere important.

And, when you’re directing their eyes somewhere, ensure that they’re looking at the correct information, not a filler or something as such. Or else it might affect their mindset. To find more, consider offering clear and concise guidance for optimal information absorption.

Tip – 4: Keep A Basic Design.

When it comes to creating a web design, most of us tend to go a little overboard at first. And, why wouldn’t we? After all, that’s what you need to grab someone’s attention, right?

No, not really. I mean, yes, many people do like an aesthetic background or vibrant coloring.
But, if there’s too much cacophony of colors, it’ll be impossible for them to see the message you want them to check out.
So, here’s what you should do while you’re designing your webpage –

  • Use a simple and basic background.
  • Increase the font size of the important texts (such as the product name or CTAs).
  • Opt for similar coloring, but don’t make it too monotonous.

Usually, when I’m designing a website, I keep a white background and use a black-colored font for writing. The symbols, like the Gmail sign or the search tab, tend to have a light hue, like gray or sky blue. It offers a decent outlook while keeping it all as simple as possible.

Tip – 5: High-Quality Images.

Do you have a product-based website? Well, it’s imperative to use a high-quality image for each of them. Let me tell you why.

Purchasing a clothing item or a shoe is quite risky, especially in an online environment. You won’t have any idea if it looks good or if the size will fit you or not. Now, as a consumer, if you can’t even see the product correctly, would you really want to buy it?

No, right? That’s why you should always upload a high-quality picture of whatever you offer. Just ensure that the image isn’t too heavy and is well-optimized. This way, you can create a sense of trustworthiness amongst your audience while keeping the speed of your website intact.

Tip – 6: Follow The 8-Second Rule.

In general, you’ll have somewhere from five to eight seconds to grab your visitor’s attention. And, trust me, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Within that small amount of time, the person can only check your homepage, and that’s that.

So, you’ll have a tiny window of opportunity to engage them with your business. Here is how you can make them count.

  • Write a vast, benefit-driven headline. It should be concise and brief.
  • Make the signup button simple, large, and clear.
  • Use a power word (bargain, hurry, etc.) or two to make the copy look more enticing.
  • Induce eye-catching imagery to convey the core point of your webpage.
  • Incorporate multimedia, like audio or video, to make the presentation livelier.

If you want to make things a little quirkier, you may also implement an animated exit pop-up on your website. It might rekindle the interest of the visitor even more.

Designing It The Right Way!

Convincing a person in a face-front interview is quite tricky, no matter how great a smooth talker you are. Hence, you can probably guess how difficult it is to do the same just by using a website, right?

That’s why it’s always best to work alongside a professional agency to ensure that you’re doing the right thing. This way, it’ll all pan out perfectly and help you avoid the common mistakes of web designing too; I’m pretty sure about it.
